ACTUANT'S "GIVE WHERE YOU LIVE" PROGRAM MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN OUR COMMUNITIES
Actuant has launched “Give Where You Live”, an organization-wide initiative with the goal to improve the quality of life and enhance the vitality of the communities in which we operate throughout the world as a part of our social responsibility. The program encourages each of our business locations to form a Community Giving Committee which then selects a local non-profit organization to support through both financial and volunteer efforts.
To date we have seen some great projects benefit various outstanding causes, and a few of them are highlighted below:
Hydratight in Deer Park, TX has partnered with the Boys and Girls Harbor Inc. in Houston. The Boys & Girls Harbor provides healthy, comprehensive residential care for children (ages 5-18) in crisis. For children who are experiencing family hardship, neglect, abandonment or abuse, the Harbor provides a family environment in a home setting. In June, Hydratight held a BBQ in their parking lot with the help of some other local business which raised money and a large number of donations for the children and employees and their family members went to the Boys & Girls Harbor for a picnic. They grilled hot dogs and rented water slides and a bounce house. All the money generated from their efforts were donated to the organization, which will go towards school supplies, clothing, food and maintenance of the building.
The Juarez, Mexico maximatecc campus followed the recommendation of their employees to support local, low-income orphanages. During the drive, employees donated items (hygiene products, nonperishable goods, basic necessities, etc.), which was later matched by the company. The plant staff and several employees dropped off the donations to the orphanage, which houses 88 children, ages 4-17. In addition to supporting the orphanage, this location also sponsors 3 children’s sports team, the Red Cross, and a local hospital that focuses on women’s health.
From building steps to painting, different groups of Menomonee Falls and Milwaukee-area employees have volunteered on several work days to help build Habitat for Humanity homes as part of their “Give Where You Live” campaign. Under the guidance of Habitat personnel, employees are divided into groups to best utilize their talents. Employees have prepared ground and moved gravel, cut pieces for outdoor stairs which they helped assemble, install siding, vacuumed floors, cleaned windows and painted basement stairs, doors and the front porch.
