United States Army Special Operations Command presents Elliott Manufacturing with Commendation Award for part in Operation Freedom
Binghamton, NY – Elliott Manufacturing is proud to announce they have been presented with Operation Freedom’s Sentinel commendation award for their support in the Global War on Terrorism.
The US Army uses the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) to protect our troops when they are heavily engaged with enemy combatants. Without the accuracy of the HIMARS strike capability, our troops could be at extreme risk and peril. 14 years ago, Elliott and Lockheed Martin collaborated together on the design to load and unload the Missile Pod, which serves a purpose that is very similar to a rifle magazine; carrying multiple rounds of munitions. The Missile Pod was designed employing four Elliott Flexible Shaft assemblies on each HIMARS launch vehicle.
After sustaining damage in the field, a number of HIMARS vehicles required immediate replacement parts. Elliott was contacted by Lockheed Martin with an urgent request to provide replacement Flexible Shaft assemblies. “Unfortunately, we had a bit of a problem,” explains Ken Ozowski, North American Sales Leader. “The normal lead time for these particular Flex Shafts is 12 weeks. Of course we understood the critical nature of getting these vehicles ‘back into the fight’ and the team at Elliott pooled its resources together. We were able to make a shipment of replacement Flexible Shafts in just one week,” states Ozowski proudly.
The military commanders in the field were beyond pleased. Together with Lockheed Martin, members of the United States Army presented the award in a ceremony on December 10, 2015 to Elliott General Manager David Morley and Ken Ozowski Elliott Sales Leader.
